Kick boxing dates back nearly 2,000 years ago in Asia. It wasn’t until the 1970s that modern competitive kick boxing had its origins. When kick boxing first emerged as a competitive sport, it was definitely something new. In kick boxing, full-contact kicks and punches are allowed – whereas all that was prohibited in karate. As time passed, kick boxing changed somewhat – padding, protective clothing and numerous safety rules were added.
In recent years, kick boxing has become popular as a form of aerobic exercise. In this type of kick boxing, there is no contact between participants, but rather the kick boxing moves are used as a way to get a cardiovascular workout.
Kickboxing is a high-intensity, high-impact form of exercise, and as such, it is important that you are aware of your fitness level and limitations before trying kick boxing.
