Also, because dumbbells are free weights and not mechanized systems, you can’t cheat on lifts by overcompensating with a dominant hand or muscle.  Whether you are looking to sculpt the chest with a bench press, work the shoulders with a military press, or exercise the legs with squats, dumbbells can provide that extra weight you need.  There are even exercises for the abdominal and back muscles that require dumbbells.  If you are looking to get the most results from the least amount of equipment – and money spent – nothing can match dumbbells.  Every home gym should include a set of dumbbells, and cannot be seen as complete without them.
